Art Deco Concert 2019

Art Deco celebrations are happening this week and to support this community event, your Band is once again parading and performing in various events.  These include welcoming guests to the ball on Thursday evening, leading diners to the Depression Dinner, entertaining shoppers at the fete on Tennyson Street, plus the usual highlight of parading in the Automobilia parade.

As if that’s not enough (phew!),  we are also holding a concert on Saturday afternoon which we warmly invite you to.  Commencing at 2.30pm, the Band will be performing their Highland Cathedral concert, playing all your favourites such as Amazing Grace, the Green Hills of Tyrol, Scotland the Brave and of course – Highland Cathedral.

Entry to this concert is just $5 on presentation of your current membership card.  Bring along a friend for just $10.  Ticket sales at the door of St Pauls Church, Tennyson Street, Napier.  We look forward to entertaining you.

Napier RSA 25 November

201809-napier-rsa
On Sunday 25 November the Band will present the final Piping & Drumming Live event for 2018. These concerts at the Napier RSA have been very popular with our members and supporters. Commencing at 4pm the hour long concert features a variety of music and afterwards there is the opportunity to relax and talk with band members and friends. RSA meals are available from 5.30.

Armistice Day 2018

The Band played at the Clive service on Armistice Day. Pipers all around the world registered to take part in the “Sleep in Peace, now the Battle’s Over” event by playing Pipe Major Robb’s classic tune When the Battle’s O’er. We were pleased to be part of the rolling sound of this historic tune travelling across the globe through the various time zones. Our thanks to members of the Hawke’s Bay Caledonian PB who joined us.

October Workshops

Tuesday 2 October – with the Foundation Youth PB members
This will be a unique opportunity to work with the members of NZ’s Foundation Youth Pipe Band on all aspects of piping and drumming. These are some of NZ’s finest young pipers and drummers, supported by their tutors, who are willing to share with us their skills and expertise. After their tattoo performances over the weekend and the concert on Monday night they will be at the band rooms to work with us on our technique and musical performances. This workshop is for all band members who are able to attend.

Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 October
This will be another of our workshops with more intensive teaching and practice, and mixing with other pipers and drummers at a similar level. The focus will be on MSR music but we will adapt sessions for the different levels of musicians.

Enrolment is essential – click here for the enrolment form

Foundation Youth Pipe Band visit

20160415_132854Drums Several years ago we were privileged to host the youngsters of the Foundation Youth Pipe Band in Napier and they are returning in October.

The band will be performing at the Municipal Theatre in Napier on Monday 1st October at 7pm and in Hastings at Lindisfarne College on Tuesday 2nd October at 7pm.  The cost for adults is $25 – tickets can be purchased via Ticketek for the Napier show and from Lindisfarne College for the Hastings show.

One aspect of the NZ Youth Pipe Band programme is to give school aged children the opportunity to come into a professional setting to see and hear the band free of charge. The band has formed a close relationship with entertainer Suzanne Prentice, OBE who will be joining the band for these performances.

Suzanne Prentice and the Foundation New Zealand Youth Pipe Band are delighted to present a night of musical excellence. Suzanne’s songs of sophistication and ballads with the warmth and depth of a truly great merlot combined with the Foundation New Zealand Youth Pipe Band’s sweet tone and dynamic rhythms will excite every soul.

This is a show for all ages and will incorporate many styles from ballads, pop and country to toe tapping jigs and reels. School aged children are encouraged to attend free of charge and will have the opportunity to have a go at playing a tune on the pipes or drums. Prepare yourself to be entertained from start to finish.
