QE II Funeral Music

A number of people have asked what music was played by the pipe bands and the solo piper during the Queen’s funeral.

In the military procession taking the Queen’s coffin to Westminster Abbey for her state funeral the massed bands comprising pipes and drums of Scottish and Irish regiments played Mist Covered Mountains and Mull of the Mountains.

On the march to Windsor Castle and to St George’s Chapel in Windsor for the committal service they played Skye Boat Song, My Home, Loch Duich and Loch Etive finishing with Flowers of the Forrest.

The Queen’s Piper, Warrant Officer Class1 (Pipe Major) Paul Burns played Sleep Dearie Sleep at Westminster Abbey and Salute to Willie, The Royal Fendersmith at Windsor Castle.
