NYE 2020/2021

Once again the Band was out and about for New Year’s Eve.  Starting at Kennedy Park we then visited Kensington Village, the homes of several members, the Taradale and Napier RSAs finishing up on the Sound Shell for the midnight festivities.   Florrie even managed to get out and about the next day to play for the walkers at Anderson Park!

Anzac Day 2020

On Anzac Day, in the midst of the lockdown, Band members played their pipes for the ‘Stand at Dawn’ initiative and at 11am as part of a national performance by pipers and drummers. ANzac Day has been a custome for the Band for many years and we were pleased that we could continue a custom the Band has been doing for many years.

Virtual Practices

Napier Pipe Band – Protocols for Virtual Practices
Getting together physically isn’t possible all the time so we’ll connect using internet meeting software. If you receive a meeting invite for a practices click on the link at the appointed time and follow these simple rules.

  • Before you start close all other apps on your computer – this frees up band width;
  • its okay to join with your microphone on but when asked please mute;p
  • The meeting leader will control who speaks/plays – if we all try to play or speak at once life will be difficult and we’ll take forever, starting and stopping;
  • Have your music manual ready and download and open any music you want to look at during the meeting ahead of time – this makes things run quicker.

For non-music meetings you may like to turn off the video (unless its necessary to see each other). Again,  this frees up bandwidth and minimises disruption (who wants to see you get up and walk around when you get uncomfortable).

Art Deco 2020

Another busy Saturday for Napier’s Art Deco weekend.  Band members played on Thursday and Friday night at events and then the band played at the St Paul’s church fete on Saturday morning, paraded in Emerson St for the car parade.  This was followed by a successful concert at the church.  Overall a very busy weekend.
