The plan for New Year’s Eve is as follows:
Meet at the band hall, Nelson Park, at 6pm. We will then proceed in our vehicles to the following venues:
Kennedy Park
Kensington Court
The Mission
Taradale RSA
Along the way we will call in to play a tune for some people and after the final venue we will gather for a late supper and to welcome in the New Year.

You’ve all heard of the Twelve Days of Christmas? This is Napier Pipe Band’s version.
On the first day of Christmas my PM sent to me

On the second day of Christmas my PM sent to me

Note: you can hear the tune played slowly here
On the third day of Christmas the PM sent to me – a suggestion to learn this tune which I might be asked to play on any (special for someone) day of the year.

On the fourth day of Christmas my PM sent to me – a reminder to revise/learn this tune which we don’t play often but we will play on NYE. Sheet music for God Defend NZ and audio file for God Defend NZ
On the fifth day of Christmas, well for something different, this one is a bit of a challenge as there are several different versions of how its played. The timing is a challenge although once the drummers get the hang of it we’ll be able to make a good go of it.

NYE 2020/2021
Once again the Band was out and about for New Year’s Eve. Starting at Kennedy Park we then visited Kensington Village, the homes of several members, the Taradale and Napier RSAs finishing up on the Sound Shell for the midnight festivities. Florrie even managed to get out and about the next day to play for the walkers at Anderson Park!
New Years Eve 2017
Once again the band was out and about on New Year’s Eve in what has become something of a tradition for our members. The first parade at Kennedy Park is always popular with children following the band as march around the holiday park. Our visits to the clubs are always an opportunity to pass the buckets around as this is one of our important fund raising activities for the year. Its interesting to see the numbers in the clubs changing over the years and our collectors have commented that fewer people are carrying cash these days.
The finale on the parade with the crowd that gathers enjoying our music is something we look forward to. Marching away with a big crowd behind us is always a great way to end the evening.
Update #1 for 2017
Happy new year to everyone and welcome to this first update for 2017
Looking back at the final parades for last year many thanks to Ken for leading the band on New Year’s Eve (there are some photos on the band’s website). Last Thursday a small group played at East Pier for the Early Ford V8 Club who were meeting in Napier making this our first parade for the year.
The Getting Going workshop is on 23-26 January – see the post on the website for details.
Our first band practice will be on Monday 30 January at the band rooms.
Hastings Highland Games: The schedule of piping events and entry form has been emailed to everyone.
New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve 2015
Update 46
Photos from recent parades (Final Night at EIT, Tremains street parade in Taradale and the Hastings Ingleside) have been posted in the band’s website and also on facebook. We just managed to beat the rain on Wednesday night – thanks for the big turnout at both events
The final activity for 2015 is New Year’s Eve: by now you should have let Harry know if you are coming (this includes pipers and drummers). We will meet at 6.15pm at HBRC, Dalton St, to tune up before we depart for our usual celebrations. If you want to blow the Christmas pudding out of your pipes or get the chocolate off the drum sticks prior to this, come down to the band rooms on Monday 28th at 10.30 to make some music.
