February 2023 Update

Hi to members,

The sun does feel good. Our thoughts go out to members affected by the cyclone. I hope everyone is okay.

We have made the decision to cancel practice this week. People need a period of rest, or to concentrate on other more important matters. We will resume the following Monday 27Feb. For similar reasons we are leaving the concert for a while. This will give us time to organise it properly and communicate with other organisations who might like to participate.

I look forward to catching up next week.

Monday practices resume Oct 4

We are resuming practices at the hall as from Monday 4 October. Being at Level 2 means that there are certain conditions we need to adhere to:

  • Members will need to sign the register which will be situated in the main hall. This is in addition to scanning the QR code as we need to be absolutely sure that we are aware of all who attend practice.
  • All entry to the hall needs to be through the main entrance. This will include drummers who will need to sign the register and then make their way to their room.
  • Indoor practice will be for practice chanter only. Hopefully the weather will be favourable enough to play pipes outside.
  • Due to the need to keep appropriate distancing, it will not be possible for both drummers and pipers to be in the main hall together. There will not be enough room.
  • To be able to attend practice, it will be a requirement that members have had at least their first vaccination shot.
  • Do not come to practice if you have any symptoms suggestive of Covid infection or of a respiratory nature including a cold/flu.
  • The Exec are aware that despite these conditions, some members may still feel uncomfortable about attending practice in the hall. We appreciate this and fully understand if you would prefer not to attend.

You are welcome to contact a member of the exec to discuss this further if you have any concerns.

Virtual Practices

Napier Pipe Band – Protocols for Virtual Practices
Getting together physically isn’t possible all the time so we’ll connect using internet meeting software. If you receive a meeting invite for a practices click on the link at the appointed time and follow these simple rules.

  • Before you start close all other apps on your computer – this frees up band width;
  • its okay to join with your microphone on but when asked please mute;p
  • The meeting leader will control who speaks/plays – if we all try to play or speak at once life will be difficult and we’ll take forever, starting and stopping;
  • Have your music manual ready and download and open any music you want to look at during the meeting ahead of time – this makes things run quicker.

For non-music meetings you may like to turn off the video (unless its necessary to see each other). Again,  this frees up bandwidth and minimises disruption (who wants to see you get up and walk around when you get uncomfortable).
