Anzac Day 2022

Band members have participated in four ANZAC Day commemorations this year.

On Tuesday 12 April, piper Chelsea Fisher played the lament at the schools Anzac commemoration at the Taradale cenotaph, an event organised by senior pupils from local high schools.

On Anzac Day Nick Scannell and Waynne Valler played at the Taradale RSA’s Dawn Service at Lone Pine. Then the band lead the parade through Taradale for the 9am service. We were grateful to have the support of our colleagues from the HB Caledonian PB.

Anzac Day 2016

Once again the band was out and about on Anzac Day. Pipers and drummers participated in the dawn services in Napier and Taradale and then the band lead the parade through Taradale to the clock tower where two pipers played the lament. Hugh, Richard and Geoff then went into Napier to be part of the morning service there while the rest of the band went down to Waipawa where we lead the service men and women to the clock tower on the main road. Then it was back to Taradale to play for the people enjoying the fellowship at the RSA.

Update 44

Over the past week we have paraded at New World Greenmeadows and CHB Christmas parade, both very good events. The Carols event in Waipawa was cancelled because of the weather but the contest team enjoyed a good practice and were joined by others for afternoon tea at Rod’s. We are grateful to Rod for opening his home up for us and putting on such a great spread.

Last night various group rehearsals and practices happened – the youngsters and others in preparation for next week’s final night and of course a final run through for the contest team. On Saturday night Gray and Penny will plat at the Napier Ingleside. On Monday please bring a plate for supper. No uniforms but you’re welcome to wear your D& S or other band related polo shirt.

Next year we’re planning to do a concert on the Sound Shell on Saturday 27 February at lunch time. It’s the weekend of the mission concert and a good opportunity to showcase the band.

Update #43

Its the 1st of December and we are into the busiest time of year for our band.  Much activity over the past weekend – thank you everyone for your commitment to these parades.

Coming up this week:

Thurs 3 Dec: New World Greenmeadows 7pm, Christmas hats and tinsel to be worn

Sat 5 Dec: Waipukurau Christmas parade, meet at the Railway Station at 12.30pm.  We’ll be marching from Racecourse Road to Countdown and then going to Russell Park to play.  We recommend that you park towards the Countdown end of the parade route to make it easier when we finish the parade to get to your car to drive to the park.

Sun 6 Dec: Contest Group will meet at Rod’s place (7A Limbrick St Waipawa) at 3.15pm.  Everyone is invited to meet at Rod’s place at 4.30 for afternoon tea.  Then we’ll all meet for the CHB Carols at Nelly Jull Park at 5.30pm.

Monday 7 Dec (and the following week) band practice is back at EIT.

Cheers
